Nursing Care For Dementia

Those seeking dementia nursing care for themselves or someone they love need to know that carers have a good understanding of care in dementia.

Convivium Care has the advantage that one of the directors is a specialist dementia care consultant and trainer so we have excellent knowledge of what constitutes good dementia nursing care.

We take special care in the recruitment of our carers to ensure that they have a good understanding of dementia patient care. It is crucial that those providing nursing care for dementia have good insights into what it might be like to have dementia, that they have patience, and that they are dedicated to giving people a good quality of life. Dementia caring requires special skills, such as assisting the person with dysphasia to express themselves and be understood.

Live-in care can supply the majority of dementia caring needs. It has the fundamental advantage over residential care of keeping the person in their familiar environment. Therefore they are able to continue with their usual activities and enjoyments with the help and support of their Convivium Carer.

Any specific qualified nursing care needs are usually met by the community nurse or the community mental health team whilst the daily care needs such as assistance with the activities of daily living are provided by the live-in carer.
