End of Life Care

The majority of people, when asked where they would like to die, state that they would prefer to end their days in their own home.

Although end of life care is something that people find it hard to talk about, it is best to be prepared by discussing these things in an open way with those close to the person in order to fulfil this wish.

Live-in care and 24 hour care represent a means of providing end of life care at home. The same carer is present for at least a week, and often for several weeks, and this gives both carer and client time to get to know each other. We encourage discussion with all those involved to be sure that we know and can respect a person’s wishes.

“I can never thank you enough for arranging what was to be the terminal care of my dear Dad. We couldn’t have asked for anyone more ideal than Anya. I am so grateful for your help and support that enabled Dad to die in his own home – respecting his wish.”

To ensure good end of life care the carers keep in regular touch with other health care professionals and our carers often play a crucial co-ordinating role.

Our carers often provide much valued support to relatives and friends during this difficult time. Family members who have their own family and work commitment have the comfort of knowing that their loved one is never alone during the end of life care stage and that they will be kept in touch with any changes which occur.

Carers are encouraged to anticipate and be prepared for any religious, spiritual or cultural needs which the person may require as well as providing the physical and emotional care which a person requires during end of life care.

“Thank you so much for your card but above all for the way you helped by family care for my mother. She passed on very peacefully in her sleep with my sister and I around her with your carer.”
